I Guess It's True What They Say...

You know how people say you marry someone very similar to your father? I never wanted to believe it, but I think it might be true.

There are certain things about my Dad that drives me nuts. This is so small and insignificant that you will probably think I'm crazy for letting this aggravate me. My Dad likes guessing games. Every night, since before I can even remember, my Dad would take the newspaper out and flip to the section of celebrity birthdays. "Nicole, how old do you think so-and-so is today." Um, number one..I don't really care. And number two, why is it whenever you ask me these questions I'm always sitting either reading a book or watching a good show! Sometimes I would play along (if I knew the answer!) other times..I would just let my Mom guess. Honestly, I don't know why it bugged me. Maybe it's because if I didn't get he would do the "Oh, come on, just guess."

Danny also likes games. For instance, he was eating butterscotch pudding..looks at me and says "If you had to rename butterscotch pudding, what would you call it?" Uh..I don't know. "Oh, come on, what would you name it?" Can't you see I'm very into Facebook stalking right now and I don't even remember what butterscotch pudding tastes like?!

I've come to learn that me and Dad are more similar than I ever thought. We are both creatures of routine..mess it up and our entire day is off. We both love the "do you know who sings this" game (the only guessing game I like!) We both bond with dogs easily. And we both never realized how much we actually do get along until we were miles apart.

Oh, and don't you think my Dad looks shockingly similar to Dennis Quaid?!

  1. Hilarious! I would have to say I'm about 50/50 on the whole "marry someone like your dad". I think it;s more often true for the man marrying "someone like their mom" lol. Love the comparison! He really does! :)

  2. That is so funny! For me, it couldn't be less true. Mr. Superman and my pops are NOTHING alike.

  3. Hey,

I am new to the lady bloggers, so I am following the tea party idea, yours caught my eye, although I am not young enough to be married to a serviceman, I support our servicesouls, I have 4 stepkids in the service (in a way of speaking).
I so agree with the idea that you pick someone much like your father when you are a young woman. I do not understand why that happens, perhaps we are truly so secure with our daddy's that the security is what attracts us.

    Great writing, thanks for sharing

  4. He does look like Dennis Quaid. Wow! I love D-Quaid! And if that's the worst trait your dad has (even if Danny emulates is) he sounds like he's a pretty good guy! :oP

  5. I think the only thing my hubby has in common with my dad is that they BOTH just keep going with the job at hand, no matter what happens.
    Never give up.
Other than that, they are NOTHING alike! :) And I pray I am nothing like his mother, but I fear there may be more similarities between me an MIL than I will ever willingly admit to.

  6. Thats funny! I also LOVE playing guessing games. My hubs hates it though. Well...he acts like he hates it, but I know he secretly loves it, even if it drives him crazy.

  7. Lol that was so cute when he asked what you would rename butterscotch pudding! It'll be interesting to see the similarities as he gets older!

  8. I don't really think hubs is really anything like my dad.... yet... He's still young. But from what I understand of my dad when he was younger he was quite the... uh.... romancer! LOL As he got older he turned into this crazy crazy (not really) man who would send e money to buy things like bunkers and freeze dried food for "the end of times" (Y2K). Altho... my husband DOES do some of that... but I think it's just his Native American-ness.. LOL
I posted about you in my blog! :-O

  9. This is too funny. I've had a conversation about this topic twice in the last couple days and now you are posting about it too. Crazy!

BTW, I hate those guessing games too...

  10. Oh wow, that is way interesting. Mr. Man and my Dad are NOTHING alike. Maybe someday something will come across, who knows. And I do totally think your Dad resembles Dennis Quaid. That's way cool!

  11. My dad and Mr. M are NOTHING alike at all. I'm really glad about that though. I wouldn't want to marry someone like my dad. I think it's really neat though how your dad looks like Dennis Quaid!

  12. My huubby and dad are the SAME PERSON. They are point makers, loud talkers, know it alls, into outdoor activity (hunting and fishing), bad with communication and emotion skills but very dedicated and hard workers. I realized they were the same driving down the interstate one day. I had just argued with Hubby about an issue I was having with my car and I called dad to let him know I was on the way and had the SAME argument! Almost word for word! I couldn't believe it! I called my best friend screaming it! haha
