This year we decided not to get each other gifts. Instead we planned a weekend away, because in my opinion doing something is better than getting something. Especially when the other person is impossible to shop for!
So, we dropped the puppy off at her home away from home, packed up the car, and headed west Friday afternoon! We checked into our hotel and then headed to our first adventure. Asheville is Beer City USA, so we headed to Mellow Mushroom (75 craft beers on tap!) for some awesome pizza and beer, and a laid back night. Sidenote: pretty positive I was the only person in the bar who had never smoked pot. Yep, every single person to the right of me looked a little too mellow if you ask me!
Saturday morning we woke up refreshed and the awesome free breakfast at our hotel got us fueled for the day! We headed to the Biltmore next! This was our second time visiting but have been told that it's gorgeous at Christmas, honestly, it looked the same to me...with huge Christmas trees. But it's still beautiful and left me wanting to be a Vanderbilt.
Then we headed to Antler Hill, my personal favorite part of the Biltmore village! We had lunch at Cedrics Tavern for a pint of brown ale, fried pickles and potato soup. DELICIOUS! And everyone at the bar was so friendly, it was such a fun time! Next we did some shopping, went to the winery (spent way too much money!) and then had some ice cream at the creamery. To say we were fat and happy by the end of the afternoon is an understatement!
We rested for a few hours (and had time for our bellies to rest!) and then we were off on our next adventure: DINNER! We had no clue what we wanted so we parked downtown and just walked. Eventually we saw a cute Thai place that smelled delicious. Honestly, best decision of the day! The food was so fresh and yummy, and the waitstaff was so friendly. And, of course, the conversation with my Hubby was great! I'd go back there in a heartbeat!
Our adventure continued Sunday morning with another awesome breakfast at the hotel. We got back into the car and headed east for the next part of the trip: Panthers Football! The game started at 1, but we were about 2 hours early, enough time to climb a million stairs to get to our seat! It was Danny's first football game and my first non-Boston-related sports game. We had such a fun time!
Then came the worst part of the trip - the drive home! It seemed like such a long drive. But I was so happy once we were home and I was able to sleep in my own bed.
Me and Danny will be celebrating our Christmas Eve separately - him running around doing last minute gift shopping...and I'll be at work. But we're ready to celebrate the big day tomorrow! Merry Christmas to everyone!

Merry Christmas to you!!
